Phuket has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, so there's no truly "bad" time to visit — but there's a clear best time depending on what you want. The island runs on two main seasons: a dry season from November to April and a green (monsoon) season from May to October. The short version: come November to February for the best weather and calmest seas, and May to October for lush scenery, fewer crowds and much lower prices.

Phuket's seasons at a glance
Cool & dry season (November–February)
The peak season and the best weather of the year: clear skies, low humidity, little rain and calm Andaman seas perfect for swimming and island-hopping. Daytime highs sit around 30–32°C. It's also the busiest and priciest time, especially over Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.
Hot season (March–May)
Temperatures and humidity climb, with April the hottest month (highs of 34°C+). The sea is usually still calm early in this period, and it's a good-value bridge before the monsoon — though the last weeks of May can be showery as the rains set in.
Green (monsoon) season (May–October)
The southwest monsoon brings warm, humid weather and heavy but usually short rain, most often in the afternoon or overnight. The island turns brilliantly green, prices drop and crowds thin out. The main trade-off is the sea: the west-coast surf builds, rip currents form, and red flags go up on the beaches.
Phuket weather month by month

| May | Green (start) | Monsoon arrives; showery, cheaper, quieter. Good value. |
| June–August | Green | Warm with afternoon rain; lush and quiet. Seas can be rough. |
| September | Green (peak rain) | Usually the wettest month; lowest prices and crowds. |
| October | Green (end) | Rain easing late month; a good-value shoulder period. |
| November | Cool & dry (start) | Dry season returns; seas calm again. Great shoulder month. |
| December | Cool & dry | Prime weather; peak prices over the holidays. |
